Kindergarten Registration

*Please read all of the following information fully prior to beginning the registration process.

NEW! Kindergarten age eligibility update:
Beginning with the 2026-2027 school year, Ohio law requires all public school districts to follow a standardized kindergarten age-eligibility cutoff. Under this requirement, students must be five years old on or before the first day of school in the district they will attend. 
For River Valley Local Schools, the first day of school for the 2026-2027 school year is AUGUST 18, 2026.  Children who turn five before or on August 18, 2026 are eligible to enroll in kindergarten. 
 

 General Information Regarding Kindergarten Registration

  • You must be the custodial parent/legal guardian to register a student.
  • To enroll your child in kindergarten for the 2026-2027 school year, he/she must be five years old on or before August 18, 2026. 
  • Students will participate in a kindergarten screening process. Kindergarten Screening will take place on Friday, May 8th. Once you have completed the online registration process, you will receive a schedule of times to choose from.  This email will be sent within 5-7 days of registering.
  • If you are not a current resident of River Valley Local Schools, you will be required to fill out an open enrollment application. There is limited space available for students who are open enrolled. If we are able to accept an open enrolled student, placement of students is based on a first come, first serve basis. This includes all applications, both intra-applicants (within the district) and inter-applicants (outside of the district). Applications will be available beginning April 1st at our Administration Office located at 197 Brocklesby Rd., Caledonia, Ohio and are time-stamped with the date that are turned in. We highly encourage you to also enroll in your home district in the circumstance that we are unable to accept open enrolled students. 
    • The registration process is completed online and all necessary documents are required to be uploaded to the registration system prior to Kindergarten Screening. If you are unable to complete your child’s registration online, please contact Darlene Kaiser at Heritage Elementary at (740) 725-5500 or Paula McBeth at Liberty Elementary at (740) 725-5600.
 
 
Step 1
Gather all of the following required documentation:
  • Ensure you live within the River Valley Local Schools district. This can be done through checking the Marion County Auditor’s website at https://propertysearch.marioncountyohio.gov

  • Gather all of the following REQUIRED documentation:
    • Child’s birth certificate
    • Two (2) Proofs of Residency (Appropriate and accepted forms listed below.)

    • Vaccination record
      • For a complete list of required vaccinations, please click HERE.
    • Custody papers (if applicable)

    • Current ETR/IEP/504 (if applicable)

  • Required registration documents can be submitted via one of the methods below:
    • Upload PDF documents in the Final Forms application process.
    • Email documents to dkaiser@rvk12.org.

    • Drop off documents (copies of the originals will be accepted) from 9:30 a.m.-3 p.m. M-F at Heritage Elementary, 720 Columbus-Sandusky Rd. S., Marion, Ohio.

 
 
Step 2
Complete the Registration Process:

To complete the registration process, you will need to have an account on FinalForms. Through this system you will be able to complete all the forms required for the registration and enrollment process.

NOTE: If you do not already have a FinalForms account. select"*NEW ACCOUNT" under parent and follow the prompts to create your account, create your student(s) and sign the required forms. 

 

Once you log in to FinalForms start the registration process using the "Add Student" button and selecting the correct school year.

Step 3
Sign Up for Screening Time

Once you've completed the online enrollment, please watch your email for a message regarding signing up for a screening time. Please allow up to 5 days for this email.

 


Accepted Proofs of Residency: Must have two (2)

  • Current electric bill in its entirety (must be monthly billing cycle)
  • Current gas bill in its entirety (must be monthly billing cycle - If Columbia Gas, please provide pages 1 and 2)
  • Current water bill in its entirety (must be monthly billing cycle)
  • Mortgage statement (must be current)
  • Settlement/closing statement (final document received at closing with signatures of seller and buyer) 
  • Print out from the County Auditor’s website identifying parent/guardian as the owner of the property 
  • Driver’s license with current address listed
  • Real estate tax bill/statement for taxes owed for an address (property owned) 
  • Deed that has been recorded with the county recorder's office.
  • Rental agreement – first page of lease/rental agreement (with names of lessee and lessor, address of property, date lease to begin and end) and last page of lease/rental agreement (with signatures of lessor and lessee) 
  • Residency Affidavit (if living with someone in the district)- This form must be obtained from the Administration Office or school office. 

**Current- Must be within 30 days. 


 

Note: The River Valley Local School District Board of Education reserves the right to revoke an Open Enrollment acceptance if it is found that any of the information provided on this application is not accurate.
